Public Works Alert: 40+ New Service Tenders Issued for January 2026 Start

PRETORIA – The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) and various provincial entities have issued over 40 new tender notices this week, with closing dates scheduled for the final week of January 2026.

Despite the holiday shutdown, the eTender Portal and Government Gazette (Vol. 714) have remained active, listing opportunities primarily in the Facilities ManagementSecurity, and Maintenance sectors.

Key Tenders Open for Bid (Closing Jan 27–30, 2026)

According to the latest bulletin, the following high-value contracts are currently open for inspection:

  • KwaZulu-Natal (CCTV & Access Control): Supply and installation of integrated security systems (biometrics, boom gates, x-ray scanners) for DPWI Head Office in Pietermaritzburg. (Ref: ZNQ 90/25/26).
  • Eastern Cape (Vertical Transport): 12-Month term contract for the maintenance and repair of passenger lifts in the Amathole District. (Ref: BCM5-25/26-0051).
  • Gauteng & National (ICT Services): Request for SaaS Backup Solutions and IT Data Cartridges for state data centers.
  • Limpopo (Fuel Supply): Bulk supply and delivery of Petrol (ULP 93) for municipal fleet operations. (Closing: 16 Jan 2026).

2026 Construction Outlook

The flurry of year-end notices aligns with the Ministry’s projected R322 billion public infrastructure pipeline for the 2026 financial year.

While major “Mega-Projects” (such as the Mtentu Bridge) remain the headline focus, the current batch of tenders points to a significant allocation for Maintenance & Operations (O&M)—a sub-sector that traditionally offers lower barriers to entry for Level 1 and Level 2 B-BBEE SMEs compared to primary construction.

Compliance Deadlines

Prospective bidders are noted that while site briefings are largely “Non-Compulsory” for these service contracts, CIPC compliance status must be “Active” at the time of closure (Jan 27, 2026) to avoid automatic disqualification during the Bid Evaluation Committee (BEC) phase.
